A recent outpatients appointment for a CT scan highlights the wasted opportunity to eradicate much of the print fulfilment costs within our NHS.
At a time of increased pressure on resources, the highest proportion of people waiting over 18 weeks for non-urgent (essential however) hospital treatment, a pandemic & the largest vaccination program in history there is a solution from Kilmarnock company, Microtech Group.
For the NHS is to achieve its vision of a service that can prevent ill-health, better manage long-term conditions, and treat people earlier, The NHS needs to invest in digital communication tools such as Microtech BEAM.
BEAM digitally manages traditional print fulfilment such as Appointment letters, Forms, Patient Correspondence, Discharge Summaries, Recalls, Lab Results and Health Campaigns directly at source, delivering a digital copy to the patient via the BEAM Mobile App, Text or Email in seconds rather than the 10-14 days often taken by print & post. Improving patient experience, empowering ownership, allowing better planning for childcare, time of work and arranging transport. At the same time saving NHS resources and the 100's of millions spent on print & post every year.
The appointment letter along with 4 sheets of information and a clinical safely form arrived on the Tuesday before the appointment. I cancelled meetings and a car service, received a call from radiology the Friday to go through the same form I had already filled in and ask the standard "COVID-19 risk" questionnaires.
On Monday I fasted for 4 hours (as requested) and just as I was to get in the car the hospital radiology department rang to advise the appointment had been cancelled as the CT scanning unit had broken down!
